Calling an ambulance (119)
What to say when you call 119, and how to tell them where you are.
- 1Call 119 (free, 24 hours). Say “Kyūkyū desu” — it’s a medical emergency.
- 2Tell them where you are. Use “Show my address in Japanese” below.
- 3If you can’t speak Japanese, ask someone nearby to help, or call the Japan Visitor Hotline.
- 4The ambulance is free. The hospital bill is paid by you (see Costs & insurance).
