Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-09-02
This is a reference translation. Only the Japanese version is legally binding (see Article 26).
These Terms of Service (these "Terms") set out the conditions for using "Japan Compass" (the "Service") provided by Gran-C Inc. ("we", "us", or "our"). Please use the Service only after agreeing to these Terms.
Article 1 (Application)
- These Terms apply to all relations between us and users concerning use of the Service.
- Guidelines, notices, conditions for individual services, and other provisions we post on the Service ("Individual Provisions") form part of these Terms.
- Where these Terms and Individual Provisions differ, the Individual Provisions prevail.
- The handling of personal information and other information relating to users is governed by our separate "Privacy Policy" and "External Data Transmission Policy", which form part of these Terms.
Article 2 (Definitions)
- "Service" means the totality of functions we provide under the name "Japan Compass" — including information on facilities, stores, and medicines, map display, AI responses, listing of coupons and advertisements, and any other function we provide — including after any change of name, domain, or delivery form (website, mobile application, etc.).
- "Listed Information" means all information displayed on the Service, including facilities, stores, medicines, articles, and coupons.
- "User Content" means information a user posts, sends, or registers on the Service (including new spot posts, correction reports, feedback, ratings, and images).
- "Third-Party Information" means Listed Information obtained from OpenStreetMap, open data published by local governments, external information providers, or other third parties.
- "Listed Businesses" means facilities, stores, medical institutions, advertisers, and other third parties listed on the Service.
- "Paid Services" means functions or products within the Service that we provide for a fee (including communication services, privileges, and others we may separately specify).
Article 3 (Contents of the Service)
- The Service provides the following functions, primarily to users visiting Japan:
- Providing information on facilities, stores, medical institutions, medicines, and similar subjects, and displaying it on a map
- Searching for nearby information based on the user's current location
- AI responses and other automated response functions ("AI Features")
- Listing coupons, advertisements, and other information provided by third parties
- Accepting information posted and reported by users
- Functions related or incidental to the above
- In addition to the above, we may add Paid Services and other new functions to the Service.
- We may direct users to, or link the Service with, other services provided by us or our affiliates.
Article 4 (Nature and Position of the Service)
- The Service is an information service. We do not provide medical, legal, tax, or other professional services through the Service, nor do we provide or broker travel services under the Travel Agency Act, accommodation, transport, food and beverage, or other services.
- We are not a party to any transaction or relationship between a user and a Listed Business. Any dispute between a user and a Listed Business is to be resolved between those parties.
- Except for anything we separately designate as a Paid Service, the Service is provided to users free of charge.
Article 5 (Important Notice on Health, Medical Care, and Medicines)
This Article sets out matters of particular importance when using the Service.
- Information on health, symptoms, medicines, and medical institutions provided by the Service is general information and is not a substitute for diagnosis, treatment, prescription, or advice by a physician, pharmacist, or other qualified professional. Please do not act on your own judgement based on information from the Service; always consult a physician or pharmacist.
- If you have symptoms requiring urgent care, contact the local emergency number immediately (in Japan, 119 for fire and ambulance). The Service is not a means of emergency reporting and does not guarantee any emergency response.
- Information on over-the-counter medicines listed on the Service is a general explanation based on information generally available in Japan. It does not take into account your individual circumstances such as age, constitution, medical history, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or interactions with medicines you are taking. Always check the product's package insert and consult a pharmacist before using any medicine.
- Even for medicines lawfully sold in Japan, possession, carriage, or import of their ingredients may be restricted or prohibited in your country of nationality, country of residence, or destination. Please check the regulations of the relevant countries yourself before taking medicines out of or into a country. We accept no responsibility in this regard.
- Listed information on medical institutions (including departments, consultation hours, availability of foreign-language support, acceptance arrangements, and costs) may have changed. Always contact the medical institution directly to confirm before visiting.
Article 6 (Accuracy of Listed Information)
- We make no warranty as to the accuracy, currency, completeness, usefulness, or fitness for any particular purpose of Listed Information.
- Listed Information includes Third-Party Information. We are not responsible for the contents of Third-Party Information and do not guarantee that it will continue to be provided.
- Displays of opening hours, closing days, "open now", and other operating status may include estimates based on previously obtained data and may differ from actual operating status. Please confirm directly with the facility before visiting.
- Displays of a facility's address, coordinates, and route guidance may differ from its actual location.
- Displays of a Listed Business's facilities, services, supported languages, payment methods, conformity with religious observance (including halal and vegetarian options), and other attributes are listed by us based on Third-Party Information or the Listed Business's own declaration, and we do not warrant their contents. In particular, please confirm matters relating to food allergies or religious observance directly with the facility.
Article 7 (AI Features)
- AI Features generate responses automatically using generative AI and do not guarantee accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose. Incorrect information, non-existent facilities, or inappropriate content may be generated.
- Users should treat AI responses as reference information and always check primary sources before making important decisions.
- AI Features do not provide medical, legal, or other professional judgements.
- Text entered into AI Features is transmitted to external providers in order to generate a response. Please see the Privacy Policy and the External Data Transmission Policy for details. Please do not enter your name, contact details, passport number, or any other information that identifies you.
- We may change, restrict, or discontinue AI Features without prior notice.
Article 8 (Coupons, Advertising, and Affiliate Arrangements)
- The Service includes advertisements, coupons, campaign information, and other content provided by third parties ("Third-Party Content").
- The conditions, validity period, participating stores, discount details, and availability of a coupon are determined by the Listed Business providing it, and we do not warrant its contents or availability.
- Any transaction or contract formed between a user and a third party through Third-Party Content is concluded directly with that third party, and we are not a party to it. That third party bears all responsibility for the transaction.
- We may receive advertising fees, referral fees, affiliate commissions, or other consideration from Listed Businesses or other third parties in connection with listing information on, or directing users through, the Service. Regardless of whether we receive such consideration, we are not responsible for the goods or services provided by such third parties.
- We indicate that content is an advertisement in accordance with applicable laws, including the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations.
Article 9 (Paid Services)
- Where we provide Paid Services, their contents, price, payment method, timing of provision, and cancellation and refund conditions are governed by the Individual Provisions we separately specify for that Paid Service and by the "Notation Based on the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions".
- When applying for a Paid Service, users confirm and agree to those Individual Provisions.
- Payment processing fees, communication charges, and other costs arising in connection with payment are borne by the user.
- We may cancel an application where we reasonably determine that it is based on fraudulent or false information.
Article 10 (Eligibility and User Responsibility)
- The Service is intended for persons aged 16 or over. Persons under 16 should use it with the consent of a parent or guardian. Where the law of the user's country of residence sets a different age, that age applies.
- Users shall comply with the laws of Japan and all laws applicable to them when using the Service.
- Users use the Service at their own risk and are responsible for the consequences of their use.
- Users shall prepare, at their own cost and risk, the communication equipment, lines, and other environment needed to use the Service.
Article 11 (Accounts)
- Users may register an account or sign in to the Service by the methods we specify, including:
- Linking with an external service account ("External Account Linking")
- Registering an email address or other identifier together with a password
- Other methods we specify from time to time and display on the Service
- The external services supported for External Account Linking are displayed on the Service, and we may add, change, or discontinue them. As of the preparation of these Terms, the supported services are Google and Facebook.
- When using External Account Linking, users are also bound by the terms and privacy policy of that external service. The scope of information we obtain from that service is as shown on its authentication screen.
- We are not responsible where sign-in via External Account Linking becomes unavailable due to suspension of the external service, a change in its specifications, or another cause not attributable to us. In such a case, we will endeavour, to a reasonable extent, to inform users of an alternative means of continuing to use the Service.
- Users are responsible for properly managing their account and must not allow a third party to use it, or lend, transfer, or pledge it.
- All acts carried out through an account are deemed to be acts of the user of that account.
- Users may delete their account at any time through the procedure provided on the Service.
Article 12 (User Content)
- Users represent and warrant that they have the lawful right to post their User Content and that it does not infringe the rights of any third party (including copyright, portrait rights, and privacy rights).
- Users grant us the right to reproduce, translate, adapt, modify, publicly transmit, distribute, exhibit, and use their User Content, free of charge, on a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, transferable, and sublicensable basis. This licence includes use for providing and improving the Service, for publicity and advertising, for creating statistical information, and for machine learning and other data processing.
- Users shall not exercise moral rights of authorship against us or against those who succeed to or are licensed rights by us in relation to their User Content.
- We are under no obligation to publish User Content and may, at our discretion and without prior notice, decline to publish, modify, or delete it.
- We are not responsible for the contents of User Content. However, if we receive a request to remove User Content, we will respond in accordance with applicable law.
Article 13 (Prohibited Acts)
Users must not do any of the following when using the Service:

- Posting or registering false information
- Impersonating another person
- Obtaining, collecting, or accumulating Listed Information by crawlers, scraping, or other automated means (except where we have expressly permitted it)
- Reproducing, reprinting, distributing, selling, or reusing Listed Information beyond the scope of use of the Service
- Entering instructions into AI Features intended to circumvent the constraints we have set or to produce unintended output (including prompt injection)
- Gaining unauthorised access to, or placing excessive load on, the systems of the Service
- Reverse engineering, decompiling, or disassembling the Service
- Acts constituting intimidation of, nuisance to, or obstruction of the business of our employees or other personnel
- Interfering with our equipment or the operation of the Service
- Being an anti-social force, or having any interaction or involvement with anti-social forces
- Any other act we reasonably determine to be inappropriate
Article 14 (Restriction and Suspension of Use)
- Where we reasonably determine that a user falls, or may fall, under any item of the preceding Article, we may without prior notice restrict use of all or part of the Service, delete User Content, or suspend or delete the account.
- We are not responsible for damage arising from measures under the preceding paragraph, except where caused by our wilful misconduct or gross negligence.
Article 15 (Changes, Interruption, and Termination of the Service)
- We may, at our discretion, change, add to, or discontinue all or part of the Service.
- We may interrupt all or part of the Service without prior notice where:
- We carry out maintenance, inspection, or updates of the system
- A failure occurs in communication lines, power supply, or other facilities
- A natural disaster, epidemic, enactment or amendment of laws, or other force majeure occurs
- A provider of Third-Party Information suspends provision or changes its conditions, or another cause beyond our reasonable control arises
- We otherwise reasonably determine that interruption is necessary
- If we terminate the Service, we will notify users with reasonable notice on the Service or by another method we consider appropriate.
Article 16 (Intellectual Property)
- Copyright and other intellectual property rights in the Service and Listed Information belong to us or the rightful holders.
- Map data in the Service includes data contributed by OpenStreetMap contributors (provided under the Open Database License). We display the prescribed attribution on the Service.
- Where we use open data published by local governments, we comply with the conditions of use for each dataset and display its source.
- These Terms do not transfer or license any intellectual property right of ours or of any third party to users.
Article 17 (Disclaimer of Warranties)
The Service is provided "AS IS". We make no warranty, express or implied, as to the completeness, accuracy, reliability, usefulness, fitness for a particular purpose, or continuity of the Service, the absence of security defects, errors, or bugs, or non-infringement of third-party rights.
Article 18 (Limitation of Liability)
- We are not liable for damage incurred by users in connection with the Service, except where caused by our wilful misconduct or gross negligence.
- Even where we are liable notwithstanding the preceding paragraph, the damage we compensate is limited to ordinary and direct damage actually incurred, and we are not liable for lost profits, lost business opportunities, loss of data, damage based on third-party claims, or other indirect, special, or consequential damage, even if we foresaw or could have foreseen such damage.
- In the case of the preceding paragraph, the amount of damage we compensate is capped at:
- For damage arising in relation to a Paid Service: the amount the user paid us for the Paid Service that caused the damage
- In all other cases: JPY 5,000
- Where a user is a consumer as defined in the Consumer Contract Act, any part of the preceding three paragraphs that is invalid under that Act or other applicable mandatory law does not apply. The remainder continues in full force.
- We are not responsible for disputes arising between a user and a Listed Business, another user, or any third party in connection with use of the Service.
Article 19 (Indemnification by Users)
If a user breaches these Terms or causes a dispute with a third party in connection with use of the Service, the user shall resolve it at their own cost and risk and shall compensate us for any damage we incur (including reasonable attorneys' fees).
Article 20 (Exclusion of Anti-Social Forces)
- Users represent and warrant that they are not an organised crime group, a member or quasi-member of such a group, a company related to such a group, a corporate racketeer, a person purporting to engage in social movements, a specially skilled violent group, or any equivalent person ("Anti-Social Forces"), and that they have no socially reprehensible relationship with Anti-Social Forces.
- Where we determine that a user is in breach of the preceding paragraph, we may suspend provision of the Service or delete the account without prior notice.
- We bear no liability whatsoever even if a user incurs damage as a result of measures under the preceding paragraph.
Article 21 (Notices)
- We give notices to users by posting on the Service, sending email, or another method we consider appropriate.
- Where we send a notice to the email address registered by a user, it is deemed to have arrived at the time it would normally arrive.
- Please direct communications from users to us to the inquiry contact on the Service or the contact set out at the end of these Terms.
Article 22 (Assignment of Rights and Obligations)
- Users may not assign, transfer, or pledge their status under these Terms, or any of their rights or obligations under them, to a third party without our prior written consent.
- Where we transfer the business relating to the Service to a third party (including by merger, company split, or other reorganisation), we may transfer to the transferee our status under these Terms, our rights and obligations, and users' registration and other information. Users consent to this in advance.
Article 23 (Severability)
Even if any provision of these Terms, or part of one, is held invalid or unenforceable under applicable law, the remainder of that provision and all other provisions remain in full force and effect.
Article 24 (Changes to these Terms)
- We may change these Terms under Article 548-4 of the Civil Code where:
- The change conforms to the general interests of users; or
- The change does not conflict with the purpose of the contract and is reasonable in light of the necessity of the change, the appropriateness of the revised contents, and other relevant circumstances
- Where we change these Terms under the preceding paragraph, we will announce the revised contents and the effective date, before that date arrives, by posting on the Service or by another appropriate method.
- If a user uses the Service after the revised Terms take effect, that user is deemed to have agreed to the revised Terms.
Article 25 (Governing Law and Jurisdiction)
